Johnson & Johnson is currently recruiting for a Data Science Manager, Application Services Digital & Analytics to be part of a fast-paced, innovative, and highly visible teams building applications for a broad cross section of sectors across the Johnson & Johnson enterprise. The position will be located in Providence, RI.

The Data Science Manager will lead the design and development of analytics based applications. The primary responsibility will be to implement best practices around machine learning and predictive modeling in an agile, application development setting. This position will require both hands on development as well as providing technical guidance to a small team of more junior developers.



  • Hands-on experience with end-end solution delivery of Data & Analytics applications involving structured and un-structured data on the Hadoop platform or similar (Ingestion, Transformation & Analysis/Visualization) is essential
  • Expert level knowledge of data analysis programming languages like R, Python, SAS, etc. is required
  • Expert level knowledge of machine learning and statistical methodologies like text mining, NLP, clustering, and classification modeling is required
  • Working knowledge of Big Data tools like Sqoop, Pig, Hive, Impala, HBase, Spark, Cloudera Navigator, etc is required
  • Working knowledge of best practices in using data discovery tool(s) like Tableau, Qlik, Spotfire, etc. on Cloudera Hadoop is required
  • Experience designing, building, and extracting large and complex data sets while thinking strategically about uses of data and how it drives behaviors in users is preferred
  • Experience moving advanced analytics applications from a proof of concept to large scale deployment is required
  • Experience documenting best practices and enforcing strong governance in a team is required.
  • Experience mentoring and managing resources through the application development lifecycle.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications.
  • Proven ability to work with project managers and stakeholders to help refine and capture software requirements in an iterative fashion. Accurately forecast engineering effort.
  • Ability to work seamlessly as part of a multi-site, multicultural development team.
  • Desire to work in a fast paced, growing, deadline driven, startup-up environment.
  • Experience with Scrum and an Agile Development environment.
  • Experience with tools like Jira, git, Confluence, etc is preferred.
  • Self-motivated, driven to achieve committed milestones.
  • Extreme attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Strong collaboration skills, ability to mentor and be mentored.
  • MS or Ph.D. degree in Computer science, Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years professional analytics or software development experience.
