Position Summary

Bridgestone Americas’ Commercial tires business is the industry leader in the manufacturing, marketing, and sale of market-leading Bridgestone brand tires and services. This business unit has a rich history in improving commercial productivity, and its innovation and performance continues to build the brand today.

Bridgestone Corporation, headquartered in Tokyo, is the world’s largest tire and rubber company. Bridgestone Americas business (www.bfusa.com) traces its roots to the establishment of The Firestone Tire & Rubber Company in August 1900. In 1988, Firestone was acquired by Bridgestone. Bridgestone’s Americas business accounted for 42 percent of the Company’s total net sales of $35 billion in 2013.

Bridgestone Commercial Solutions based in Nashville, provides tires and services for trucking, construction, mining, aggregates, and industrial operations across the Americas. Bridgestone Commercial Solutions is responsible for over $5 billion in revenue, leveraging its leadership position within mature sectors into emerging and under-developed commercial opportunities.

The Transportation industry is evolving rapidly and the Emerging Technologies Team will lead Bridgestone’s efforts to design, market and commercialize solutions to meet emerging needs

The Data Scientist's main focus will be to improve enterprise decisions through the translation of data, as quickly as possible for the development of new solutions. In addition, they will provide the highest most impactful use of data and advanced analytics to improve decisions. The Data Scientist will work with Marketing, Finance, Enterprise IT, and Operations to perform analysis that will identify integral solutions meant for both internal and external users. They must be able to accomplish various types of advanced analytics, in a fast-paced, startup-like environment, continuously seeking new ways of transforming the business through available data and helping Bridgestone forge new capability in data science.



  • Builds new predictive/descriptive models and evaluates current effectiveness of existing models.
  • Designs experiments/campaigns and analyzes the resulting data.
  • Performs post-hoc (correlation) analysis when experimental designs. (causational analyses) are not feasible and explains the limitations of the results.
  • Advises analytical data programmers on quality and infrastructure needs and challenges.
  • Translates analytical results and makes recommendations for improvements in the areas of application.
  • Identifies data quality issues and drives them to resolution.
  • Identifies and independently resolves data issues.
  • Creates advanced transformations and applies advanced techniques for dealing with small sample sizes independently.
  • Assist CET Directors, vendors, and third parties in the identification and quantification of applications for analytics and development of project charters and plans as appropriate
  • Mentor and train less experienced Analysts.




  • MS degree in Analytics, Statistics, or Mathematics field and 8+ years of Data Science/Analytics experience or PhD degree and 5+ years of Data Science / Analytics experience
  • Advanced knowledge of the various Analytics applications on the market for business units/focus areas.
  • Experience with Azure and Amazon cloud environments
  • Demonstrated ability to apply techniques as appropriate for extremely large data sets with 1,000+ variables (columns)
  • Experience developing, training, mentoring, entry level analysts
  • Experience designing, applying, and improving algorithms/models on streaming data
  • Able to analyze business data using 5 or more of the Statistical/Mathematical Specialties and expertise in 3 or more of the Statistical/Mathematical Specialties below:

  • Expertise acquired through prior experience in applying statistical/mathematical techniques in several business units/focus areas (Operations, Supply Chain, Real-Estate, Pricing, Marketing, etc).
  • Capable of working and communicating directly with Director and below to scope the technical needs of medium scale, high-value, technically complex projects.
