Are you looking to build a strong career? Then we have an opportunity for you! We currently have an opportunity for a Data Scientist located at or headquarters in Lake Forest, IL.

The Data Scientist will report to the Sr. Global Analytics Manager and will be responsible for integrating data between import, contract manufacturing, cost and retail datasets to enable the product category teams to manage the risks of their business effectively.  This role will dig in and become an expert on various datasets. The Data Scientist will provide insight into leading analytic practices, design and lead iterative learning and development cycles, and ultimately produce new and creative analytic solutions that will become part of our core deliverables.

The Data Scientist will work with cross-functional team members to identify and prioritize actionable, high-impact insights across a variety of core business areas.  This role will leverage applied analytics across a breadth of our initiatives. The Data Scientist will research, design, implement and validate cutting-edge algorithms to analyze diverse sources of data to achieve targeted outcomes.

This role will be responsible for producing data visualizations that provide insight into data set structure and meaning as well as developing statistical, machine – learning, and heuristic techniques to create descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics.

This role will be passionate about asking and answering questions in large datasets, and able to communicate that passion to the appropriate team members. The Data Scientist will have a keen desire to solve business problems, and live to find patterns and insights within structured and unstructured data.

 The Data Scientist will be responsible for:


  • Develop data mining, statistical and graph based algorithms to analyze large data sets.
  • Create large scale recommendation systems, NLP, and text analytics.
  • Develop scripts that extract data from various datasets formats including: SAP, SQL tables, structured metadata, and unstructured data.
  • Leverage tools such as Import Genius, Piers, Panjiva, census data, world government data, etc., to collect, amalgamate and then compare to internal data on sales and internal/external manufacturing business.
  • Develop and maintain internal databases of import/export information by country, external contract manufacturer and product family.
  • Extract and transform raw data from various data sources into useful information to enable more effective strategic, tactical, and operational insights.
  • Determine best methods to gather, model, manipulate, and present data while gathering business requirements and translating business questions into business requirements.
  • Create and automate reports by established deadlines and on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Use Tableau and/or Power BI to visualize data
  • Use Trifacta to derive value from diverse data


Job Requirements

To be considered for the Data Scientist opportunity, candidates should possess:                                                                                                                               



  • BS Degree in operations research, applied statistics, engineering, data mining, machine learning, physics or a related quantitative discipline.


  • 1+ years of experience delivering world-class data science outcomes, solving complex analytical problems using quantitative approaches with a unique blend of analytical, mathematical and technical skills.
  • 1+ years of data mining and analysis experience preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience with experience in programming with data analysis software in a professional work environment preferred.


  • High proficiency in MS Office.
  • High proficiency using one or several of the import/export data services such as Import Genius, Piers, Panjiva, or equivalent.
  • High proficiency in Excel, including ability to use array formulas, pivot tables and conduct financial modeling.
  • High proficiency in the use of statistical analysis environments such as R, MATLAB, SPSS or SAS.
  • Experience with relational databases as you are with Hadoop-based data mining frameworks.
  • Experience with SQL, Python, Java and C/C++.
  • Ability to correlate discrete pieces of data into a larger view to identify and describe trends.
  • Ability to develop statistical tests to make data-driven conclusions and recommendations.
  • Ability to conduct statistical and predictive modeling concepts, machine-learning approaches, clustering and classification techniques, and recommendation and optimization algorithms.
  • MBA or other advanced degree a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate and influence at all levels within the organization.  Particularly, the ability to effectively communicate technical information verbally as well as in written formats.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work unsupervised as well as collaborate across all functional teams, including internationally.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple accountabilities and multiple internal customers.
  • Strong level of intellectual curiosity, analytical skills as well as organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise patience and fortitude to identify, analyze and resolve problems logically and systematically.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule during key business deadlines.
  • Must be team oriented with the ability to work on high collaboration and performance teams.
