Your Responsibilities

As a Data Scientist for John Deere Financial, you will develop, implement, and manage the credit scoring, auto-decision processes, and other risk assessment tools used for North America Ag Installment & Lease portfolios to help manage portfolio risk and drive efficiency through automated credit decisions. You will specifically redevelop the Ag consumer application scoring model and develop a new Ag commercial application scoring model to enhance the assessment of application quality. In addition, you will:

  • Develop a new loss given default model for Ag to facilitate more granular scoring and credit decision capabilities than currently achievable through our probability of default models
  • Own risk management responsibilities for the US Ag Installment and Lease portfolios including monitoring, analyzing and presenting key portfolio trends and risks to Senior Management
  • Proactively identify and implement new analytical tools and data visualizations to enhance the assessment of portfolio risk with specific focus on the Ag Lease portfolio
  • Proactively identify and pursue projects to utilize analytics to create operational efficiencies, maximize profits and manage risk including proactive assessment of automated decision strategies for areas to grow efficiency while appropriately managing risk
  • Act as the analytics lead on large-scale cross-functional projects
  • Stay abreast of developments in the credit risk management industry as well as the Ag industry and incorporate into analysis as appropriate
  • Provide technical support, training, and counsel to employees; including sharing technical knowledge of tools such as SAS and R and offering assistance/collaboration on technical projects such as scorecard model development.

What Skills You Need

  • 4+ years of related experience in data analytics, data mining, and statistical modeling
  • Strong combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in statistical techniques, including development of predictive models
  • Experience applying advanced data gathering and analysis techniques, including statistical analysis, to drive business solutions
  • Experience with project management; leading large cross-functional projects
  • Experience mining, cleansing, and analyzing data sets from source systems using programs such as SAS and/or R


What Makes You Stand Out

  • Experience creating credit scoring models including probability of default and loss given default models
  • Knowledge of consumer and commercial bureau data


Education (or Equivalent Experience)

  • Bachelor's or Master's (preferred) degree in Math, Actuarial Sciences, Statistics or other quantitative discipline
