Job Description

Are you interested in getting in on the ground floor of one of Uber’s next big product lines? Do you have the quantitative skills and entrepreneurial mindset to help us build, optimize, and scale an entirely new marketplace? The Uber Freight group is looking to hire a few skilled data scientists for the recently launched Uber Freight app.

Uber Freight is all about building a marketplace for shippers and carriers to provide reliable, intelligent, and cost-effective way for freight to move all over the country. The Uber Freight app, naturally, lies right at the heart of this.

Here’s what you’ll be working on:working with engineers, product managers, and operations staff to build models to help us optimize our funnel from user acquisitions and retention to engagement and conversion. building high quality prediction systems to target our carriers with freight they’d like to move, and carry out research and analysis that prepares us to seize optimization opportunities as we continue to grow. Designing, running, and analyzing A/B and multivariate tests aimed at testing hypotheses and optimizing user experience.
The Freight team is less than a year old, so you’ll be coming into a role where you’ll have the opportunity to own your models all the way through implementation, and you’ll be building the first versions of products never before seen. Furthermore, Data Scientists on marketplace teams focus strongly on the mathematics and engineering related to optimizing the economics and operations of Uber’s marketplace, regardless of whether it’s livery or freight. Therefore, particular preference is given to candidates direct work experience in these topics or with backgrounds in Economics, Econometrics, Operations Research, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, or similar.
