Genomic Systems Engineer


Kaiser Permanente’s Research Bank (KPRB) is one of the largest biobank in the US with a collection of 270,000 consented participants. KPRB’s primary mission is to develop a world class biospecimen and data resource for both external and internal researchers in genomics and precision medicine. In this role, you will design and implement industry best practices for the management of genomics data for the Kaiser Permanente Research Bank. You will work under the direction of the Kaiser Permanente Research Bank Executive Director and Data Coordinating Core Lead to identify requirements for genomics data systems, automated workflows, and genomic data provenance. You will negotiate performance expectations with customers and create project work plans to match. In addition, you will work in collaboration with the project team and Information Technology to develop data definitions consistent with data management standards and conventions.  


Qualifications include:

  • At least seven years of combined experience, to include a minimum of five years directly related experience in handling and managing large datasets, database technologies, genome databases (particularly those relating to genome annotation, variant annotation, and biological pathways); and at least wo years of experience in genomics and bioinformatics
  • A master’s degree in health sciences, informatics, computer sciences, or genomics sciences, or directly related field
  • A PhD in health sciences, informatics, computer sciences, genomics sciences, or a directly related field preferred
  • The ability to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment
