Job Details

Apple seeks a software engineer to join an exceptionally skilled research group working with data science, statistics, geospatial analysis, big data, and deep learning. The Apple Maps Data Metrics team is responsible for reporting on the quality of base map, POI, traffic, satellite imagery, cartography, and map tile data. Come define the best ways to acquire actionable insights into where and how we have the most opportunities for improving Apple customer experience around the world. The successful candidate will partner with data engineering, human judgement/rating, analytics infrastructure, and tools teams to architect, implement, and use applications, pipelines, and dashboards that quantify product quality.

Description

The Maps Software Engineer will focus on creating applications supporting the creation, measurement, and reporting of analytic metrics for Apple Maps data. You will wrestle with enormous big data challenges, geospatial data, and massive A/B test data from your code to craft and present compelling stories that drive engineering focus and data acquisition on improvements visible to Apple’s customers.

Requirements

Key Qualifications

  • You must have solid previous experience in computer science, software engineering, and big data. Ideally you have used C/C++, Scala, Spark, Python, or even Java to create applications that solve complicated problems. Five years of professional experience is required. We expect you to demonstrate a strong working knowledge of Python, C++, Scala, and basic linear algebra and will ask that you demonstrate as much in your very first interview. We would like to discuss your experience designing full stack applications, wrangling data, defining software architecture, writing and debugging code, and delivering compelling solutions to your customers. We’d like to know if you’ve worked in an agile environment and would like to see your GitHub repository. If you have previous experience providing location services, let us know!

Education

A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Math, Physics, Engineering, Robotics or related field is expected. Advanced degrees preferred but not required.

Additional Requirements

Candidates must have superior written and verbal communications skills.
